Sometimes, I wished the light from the sun would shut off, but I needed something to get me up for Monday. Right, Monday, a school day. As I crawled out of bed, I switched on the light and stood still till my eyes adjusted to the brightness. Growl, went my stomach. I needed to get going on the day. Changing my clothes and a quick straighten of my hair, I was ready to eat something, so I made pop-tart cereal. Pretty good if you ask me. Oh snap. The bus would be here in five. “Goodbye!” I yelled, and stepped out to find the cold air waiting to freeze my warm body. Finally the bus came and my body heated up again. Off to school, on a Monday.
Walking in the gym isn’t as fun as being outside. It is so crowded, and in my opinion, stuffy. The boys in one group and the girls scattered. I noticed the guys almost travel in a pack, and the teachers are Shepherds, and pushed us out of the way as if they were rock-stars pushing assistances. just joking, but they do make us move over. The music shut off halfway in a song, and it was time to head to class.
We did our typical start of the day, then headed to reading. In reading we talked about Erik Weihnmayer and how inspirational he was to kids. His blindness didn’t keep him from doing anything he set his mind to. Though he did fall eight feet down into his grandparents boat, but he made a good choice and used a cane. Next thing I knew it was time for language arts. We talked about our stories we wrote and our introductions. Mrs. Dux said I nailed mine, so yes I’m going to brag. Our assignment was to finish our rough draft. Time for spelling!
O-b-s-e-r-v-a-t-i-on was one of my words for spelling. We did a contest at first and then lesson 56. I got two easy words on our team, and we won by two too! Pretty funny how I did that right? Yeah ok, I also got lesson 56 finished. Science was next, time to go.
Science was pretty easy. We basically just read about high school students who go to NASA. Well look at the time. Lunch was here! “Time to dine!” says Mrs. Hudson.
Cheeseburger and tator-tots. I had hot but didn’t turn out eating all of it. At recess we stole the ball from the boys and the boys stole the ball from the girls. It was intense. Brrinnng went the second bell. When we got inside, Mrs. Hudson read Nowhere to Call Home. Library was just around the corner, literally. We typed of course, but this time it was different, we saw how many words we could type per minute, in other letters wpm. Music was singing for us to come in, though all we did was practiced our program. I checked the clock and look time for math.
Math wasn’t the greatest, but even though I didn’t get it done, I was looking forward for the day to come to an end. We learned about the LCM Least Common Multiple. I like the greatest common factor best, but I managed to make it through. To social studies, and away we go.

Social studies was a breeze. We checked page 33 and practiced vocabulary. There was no assignment but to study for our test on Wednesday. Study hall - finally!
Study hall was math and reading though I still had work to do, roving reporter. “Everyone line up!” Mrs. Hudson proclaimed. As we waited in the hall, everyone was chatting away ready to bust through the door like racehorses in the gate. Once all the teachers were at the doors, everyone bolted out. Back into the fresh air, I went up the stairs and loaded up on the bus. Home, was my next class.

My mom woke me up and told me to do my least favorite thing after it snows. As you may have guessed, it was scooping the snow off of the driveway. There are good and bad things about snowstorms, the good thing was that we had a late start. The bad thing is scooping snow. I guess scooping snow has a good reward, M&M pancakes for breakfast! After I threw down my breakfast, I got ready to go to school.
Once I got to school, I sat around and talked with my classmates until it was time for lunch count and the flag salute. After that, Mrs. Dux told us the schedule for the day. All of my classmates got off to a good start for the day because we were only going to have a few classes for the day because school didn’t start until 10:30.
Mrs. Mac and Mrs. Hudson had their classes come into our classroom to watch a movie called “Blind Sight.” The movie had several blind kids that were going to climb a mountain near Mt. Everest. It also showed what the life of a blind person would be like with all of their daily challenges that most people would not face.
It was time for lunch only a half hour after school started. I wasn’t even hungry when we ate. Well I have to admit, that was a first. Even though it was delicious, I didn’t eat much of my chili, cinnamon roll, or muffin. It was time to go to our classrooms for indoor recess where I played Patrick in several astonishing games of Connect 4. Recess was flying by like always, so it was already time to clean up and listen to Mrs. Dux read “Hunger Games.”
After 15 minutes of reading, it was time for art. Today we were told to draw a picture of our shoe. We all did that for 30 minutes. We have art every Friday, so we will have more time to finish our shoes.
Mrs. Dux told us to line up and go down the halls to library. Today we had Mrs. Pierce as a guest teacher. There we typed drill 14 where we learned new keys, p and v. When everybody was done typing, we went back to our classroom for math. All we did was check our assignment from the previous day, which was the chapter review. Then we got our computers and went to Moodle for our chapter test. Then we had time to play educational math games.

Once math was over, everyone came back into our classroom to finish the movie. This time, the kids got to the top of the mountain. The next morning they climbed back down the mountain. That took about 30 minutes to finish. Then everyone walked back to their classrooms.
During study hall, we were allowed to play games since I was the only person that had an assignment (lucky me). Since I couldn’t get my assignment done at school, I played Rack-O with Kadin, and Mary. Mary won and I got second.

Roving Reporter was fun like always. I love to be Roving Reporter but I’m glad that I don’t have to do it every day because it takes a lot of time. I can’t wait until I get to do Roving Reporter again. It is one of my favorite assignments.

Wake up! This is how people usually wake up in the morning. It might have been the middle of February, but it was quite warm outside. When kids got to school, we had to walk in the armory. In the mornings while we walked, we listened to music. It was always the same, so most people knew exactly what the next song would be. But today we got the radio hooked up. There was only one problem, we knew the next song if we listened to that station. When we were done walking we went inside and did the pledge. Then we were off to reading.
In reading our story was about the first blind person to climb to the summit of Mt. Everest, so we watched two videos and we did some vocabulary. Next we had a typical day of reasoning and writing. In social studies we are learning about Buddhism so we watched a video to answer on a worksheet. Our next class was spelling and had L to J, which is just like vocabulary. Next we have a break from work. Lunch.

Our next real class of the day is math. We checked the assignment from the last day. Our next class of the day was science. It was Dr. Dave so we did an activity. This activity was we road on a hover-board. At the end of the day the weather had changed a lot. It was snowing. So the day ended with people hoping no school.

As the bell rang, it sent dozens of noisy children stampeding through the halls of the school. The sound level was set at maximum. The teachers shushed the loud students and the day had begun.
To get started, our class did the lunch count. The food we were going to eat today was goulash. After the lunch count was taken we recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Off to the first class of the day we went, which is reading.
During our reading time we took a look at our unit tests. Then after discussing our tests we clicked them in. As reading time started to come to an end, the homework came. The homework for reading was to do a graphic organizer on Unit 3. But next was Reasoning and Writing.
Right away we knew it was business. We barely got started and we had a new writing prompt. It was “Persevere to reach your dreams” and we had to web it out by tomorrow. Then we started in on the Reasoning and Writing book. As an assignment, Part E was due tomorrow. Before we knew it, we were out the door and on the way to science.
Once we were in science, we finished up a test we had started yesterday. The instructions were to finish up, give the teacher the test and she will tell you your next assignment. As it turns out, we had to copy our vocabulary words for the next chapter and write their definitions down. But the bell rang, and with no time at all I had four assignments. The next subject was social studies.
In social studies we watched a movie about Buddhism. After that we answered as many questions as we could that were off of the pre test. But before long our stomachs started to growl, and it was time to go to lunch.
The students filed into the lunchroom and lunch began. The talking turned loud again and pretty soon it was time for recess. During recess the whizzes of dodge balls filled the air. But the bell rang way too soon, and it was time to go inside.
Because we didn’t have music, we had technology class. We learned how to save pictures in the My Pictures folder. But in a blink of an eye, we were going to P.E. Today in P.E. we learned how to play Newton ball. It was a fantastic new game to play. Next in line was math class.

When we got in math we went over our assignment which was 1-34 on pages 204-205. That took up the whole hour. Our teacher was going to give us an assignment, but thank goodness, she decided against it. We could still do the assignment if we had time. The last subject was drawing nearer and nearer, and it was spelling.
Spelling started off with a test, but half way through our test, we heard the screeching of the fire alarm. We went outside and numbered off. No one missed a number; it was perfectly done. When we went back inside, we finished off the test. The last forty minutes of school were left, and it was time for study hall. Study hall was really productive for me. I got my reading, science, social studies and a little of my language arts done. But the bell rang, and it was time to pack up and get ready to leave.
Finally the bell sang for the last time that day, and it was that same stampede again. But I walked home feeling great due to the way today had turned out to be.

Beep, beep, beep! The noise entered the quite room. I flipped on the light so I didn’t fall asleep again. The cold air urged me to stay under the blanket safe from any harm, but I remembered I have school today so I got up and head down stairs. For breakfast I ate some off-brand chocolate cereal and headed off to get dressed. After I ate breakfast, I went to get dressed and then headed off to school.
It was a crisp morning and the weather played on the line of cold and okay. I headed to the armory to walk in the gym and talk with my friends. Mrs. Dux was gone today, and so just Mrs. McAllister was there. As more people started to show up, I just walked alone outside the crowd. When the bell rang, we headed back to the school to start the day off.
When we got back in the room, everybody was talking about the weekend, and lets say it was just short of chaos. Then Mrs. Hudson took lunch count and sent us off to reading. The wait in hall was long as usual.
When we finally got in the room, I was told that I had to do Roving Reporter. Then Mrs. Welch read an oral story to us about a man without legs climbing a mountain. Then she gave us some vocabulary practice. She then gave us some vocabulary words and a worksheet in our workbook. Then it was time for Reasoning and Writing, and instead of just writing we actually did Reasoning and Writing out of the book ,which nobody I know likes.
After barely making it through Reasoning and Writing, we went to spelling. In spelling we corrected a lesson then, and we played Sparkle. I won only once, but it felt good when I did. After a fun game of Sparkle we headed off to science.
When we first got in to Mrs. Hudson’s room, I was told to draw a Lithium atom on the board because that’s what we had to do on a worksheet. When we were done talking about the worksheet, we took a test. I was freaking out about the test when I was saved by the bell.

During lunch I sat talked with my friends while I ate my chicken nuggets and tator tots. During recess, I did what I always did, roam the playground talking to people whenever I saw them. Before I knew it, the second bell had rung and I had to go inside.
When we got back inside, Mrs. Hudson took the afternoon roll call. Then she read to us aloud from the book Nowhere to Call Home. After that we went to P.E.
In P.E. our class was bad, so we ran the whole time. In music we went over our songs and fixed up the movement
Then in math we worked with mixed numbers and improper fractions. We used shapes and then we had an assignment. My friend and I were done first as always, so we read our books. Before we knew it, it was two o’clock, which meant it was time for social studies.

In social studies we read a packet, and then we did a worksheet on the back where you take all the questions that were true and take the letters and make a word out of it. (The answer was Indus.) After social studies we went to band.
Band was during study hall, and so I didn’t have much time to get my homework done. When I got back, I had to hurry to beat the wave of students. At the end of the day when I got home, I just thought about the cycle of the day tomorrow.

When I woke this morning, I was tired, but that didn’t matter. I had to go to school.
So when I got to school, we did lunch count and flag salute. When we were done, we had to go to reading.
In reading, we did the unit test and went over our dream bedroom essays.
As soon as class got done, I wheeled my way over to science. In science we did pretest practice.
Once class was over, we went back to Mrs. Dux’s classroom for social studies. In social studies, we did a pretest on our knowledge on Hinduism. Holy cow, it was time to go to lunch.
When we got back from lunch, the next subject we had was math. In math we had to take quiz 4-3 on Moodle. On Moodle we worked on LCD and listing factors from greatest to least.
That’s pretty much it so I hope you enjoyed the life of a sixth-grader.

Hot and humid could describe this fifty degrees February morning. I woke up to my dad’s yelling voice, “Mary time to get up!” I got out of bed with an ugggggghhhh. Jumping in to the shower shaking off the sleep, and getting ready to fight the morning routine. Thirty minutes till I leave and I was still trying to give my dog her medicine. After that we all piled in the cherry red van and head off to school.
I decided to walk across the tennis courts to the armory instead of walking through the school. I really wish we were outside to walk, but I guess inside is alright too, I mean we get to enjoy music while we walk. Finally we headed off to homeroom and started reading class.
When we got settled down, Mrs.Dux read stories about our dream bedrooms. She read mine yesterday so I’m pretty happy that I didn’t have to get criticized, but I got to criticize. Some of the stories were amazing, some of them needed some work, but still they were all good. After reading we started language arts.
We had a writing assessment about our favorite place to visit; I did mine on the Rolla-Rena. We had thirty minutes to complete our rough draft. I thankfully finished mine (that’s a relief). After a quiet language arts class, we all chattered to see what Dr. Dave had for us in science.
During science we played with electricity. Well, actually we played with a nine-volt battery, two red wires, and three Christmas tree lights. Our groups had to figure out how to make a two-way switch (I wasn’t very successful) but one group figured it out. Once we all said good bye to Dr.Dave we, bombarded social studies.

During social studies we finished a video about Hinduism. Then we finished a packet on Hinduism , which we kept so we could study the information. Once we got done with it, we could all smell cheese and ran to lunch with our stomachs growling.
For lunch we had Macho Nachos with beans, carrot cake, and many kinds of fruits. After lunch we went to recess, and I played chicken on a hill, which is a trust game where you have to trust your partner to do the right movements. We all were hot and sweaty when we got inside to listen to Mrs.Dux read. After that we went to a musical music class.
During music we practiced our dancing for our program. After that we went to P.E with Mr.Edson. During P.E we played an arousing game of dodge ball. Then we went to our class for math.

In math we worked on changing decimals to fractions and fractions into decimals. Once we finally figured that out, we got two worksheets to do (they were actually pretty easy). Then we walked to spelling.
During spelling we did L-J, which was hard. We had words like dialog, domestication, and caption. I got six out of ten correct. I personally think that is awesome. Then after L-J we went to study hall.
During study hall I did my math. We did a math pop quiz that if we got 3-5 or up, we got a pull of the m&m machine. After study hall was done, it was time to go home at last.

The bright sunny sun awoke me with also the sound of the annoying sound of the alarm clock buzzing at exactly 7:oo am to get ready for another boring day of school. The shining sun guided my way to Mrs. Hudson’s room because I needed to print out my dream bedroom essay for reasoning and writing class. After I printed out my sheet, I heard a faint sound of footsteps. Then I realized my quiet time had ended because a massive amount of my classmates came running down the hall.

Our morning began with our normal routine of the lunch count and the flag salute. We got ready for reading and headed out the door. In Mrs. Dux’s reading class, we concentrated on grading Mrs. Ruhnke’s kid’s essay. Some of the essays were proficient, but others, were not. We graded the essays during Reasoning and Writing too, so we had no assignment. It was time to get ready for spelling with Mrs. McAllister.

In spelling we entered, took our seats, and began to check lesson 51. Shortly after, we were assigned lesson 52 for tomorrow. I finished it easily and got ready for science class with Mrs. Hudson.


In science we learned about balancing formulas. For the record it was very difficult. It was pretty much like math in science. We had an assignment that was to match up the definition with the word,. Now that was a piece of cake, but the hard part was balancing the formulas. Mostly everybody needed help. But, eventually we got help, and everybody seemed to get it.

Then we heard the lunch bell, grabbed our coats and headed out the door to lunch. For lunch I had pasta w/ meat sauce, which was very scrumptious. I also had bread with butter, peaches, and salad with ranch. Suddenly the recess bell rang and everybody ran to have a good recess. For recess I sat down on a bench and watched Antonio do wheelys on his wheelchair which was amusing to watch. After a while the bell rang and we headed inside.

When we got inside, Mrs. Hudson read Nowhere to Call Home for about 10min., and then Mr. Edson came to take us to P.E. In P.E. We did stretches, and then jogged for a while. Later we played Dog Catcher.


When music was over, we went to math class. We just started fractions. We did a few fractions, and then before I knew it, math was over in a blink of an eye. Next was social studies with Mrs. Dux . We just started learning about Hinduism in India. We were assigned two assignments the previous day, a workbook page and a graphic organizer. We checked the assignments and then it was time to go.

Click! My bedroom light was on. My little brother came stampeding into my room, and told me to get up. I realized it was Valentine’s Day, so I got up and got ready for school. We drove to the high school and waited for 7:50 to head to school to eat breakfast.

After that, I headed to the classroom, where I put candy in people’s Valentine bags. We said the Pledge of Allegiance and started reading and Reasoning & Writing class. We looked at examples of stories. Next, it was science class. We studied hydroelectricity and read a sheet about it. Next was social studies. We went over a G.O. and talked a little bit more about India.

Finally it was time for lunch/recess! For lunch, we had Jeff rib sandwich. At recess I chatted with some friends, but soon…rrrrriiiiinnnnnggggg!! We went back inside and listened to Mrs.Dux read The Hunger Games. Next, we had music. We practiced our program and went to library. In library, we practiced key boarding. No! Time for math! We practiced fractions and did practice 4-8.

Our last class of the day, spelling! We did lesson 51. At study hall, I opened up my Valentine bag, and at 3:20, I went home. As you can see, I had a very busy day, but hey, at least I got a lot of candy!

“Beep, beep, beep,” said my alarm clock annoyingly. I had to get up for the last day of school for the week. When I went upstairs, I had seen that we were out of my favorite kind of cereal. “Are you kidding! I screamed.”

Then my dad came in and said, “What was that about?”
“Look, my cereal is gone.”
“No it is not,” he chuckled.
“Why are you chuckling?” I yelled. He told me with a smirk on his face that I had been looking in the wrong cupboard. Then he walked away laughing to himself.

“Wow,” I thought. “How dumb can I be?” After I ate a delicious, nutritious breakfast, it was time to head for school. While we were loading up into the car, I witnessed something that I would never forget.

The bang was as loud as an aircraft taking off. The sight was as horrific as witnessing a murder. It was a terrifying car wreck. The front of the car was totally shattered. Luckily, nobody was injured. We drove down and asked if their kids needed a ride to school.

On our way there, we introduced ourselves. Then we dropped them and my sister off at Central. After Central, it was time to go to Jefferson. I got out of the car and walked to the Armory in the bone-chilling weather. The wind blew in my face, making my eyes water and spit out tears.

By the time I had finally reached the doors, the tears had stopped dripping off of my face making a frozen river. When I took my coat off and joined up with my friends, we were arguing about what sport is better. I was protecting the sport that I love more than any other sport . . . wrestling.

Before we were done arguing, the teachers said that it was time to line up. It was back to the bone-chilling weather. As soon as we got inside, the warmness engulfed our shivering bodies. After that, we did the Pledge of Allegiance.

First, we watched half of the class do a play called the Phantom Poet. Then, we all just sat there with bored looks on our faces until it was time for language arts.

Next, our boredom continued in language arts. Little smirks crossed our faces when we looked at the clock and realized it was time for science.


After that, we did an experiment making water-wheel-like structures. We made it by taking two water bottles and cutting off the bottom. Then we taped the backs of the water bottles together. Next, we taped index cards to the outside. After that, we put it on a wooden rod and poured water on the index cards, trying to get it to spin as many times around as possible. We all whined in despair when Mrs. Hudson told us it was time for social studies.

Then, we read on South Asia. That wasn’t too bad, but it didn’t come anywhere near science. That is why we all let out a sigh of relief when Mrs. Dux said it was time for lunch.

Next, we had pizza. It wasn’t good, but it wasn’t bad either. During recess, I played Bop-it, a game of fun and skill. When the bell rang, we were all depressed.

Next, we practiced our program with Mr. Roby. There is not much to tell, because if I did, I would ruin the surprise. After a short music class, we saw Miss Seibolt looking through the window and we knew abruptly that it was time for P.E.

During P.E., we played capture the flag. My team won most of the matches, but one time they had time to get revenge. We all moaned when we had to go back out into the freezing weather to go to math.

Next, we learned about least common multiples. At the last minute, she gave us yet another worksheet. After the mound of homework, it was time for spelling.

After that, we sang “Happy Birthday” to Mrs. McAllister. During spelling, we did L to J, but I only got 50% of the words right. After a depressing grade, it was finally time to go to study hall.

Then, in study hall I mainly worked on math, but I also wrote the sentence that you are reading right now. After that, it was finally time to go home.

When the bell rang, everybody scrambled to get home and out of the bitter cold temperatures.

Shiver. I awakened to the cold air coming through an unsealed window. Daylight hadn’t shown yet, so darkness still filled the sky. Not wanting to get out of bed, I lazily rolled off the edge of my mattress and hit the floor with a violent thud! I was fully awake now.
Despite my awakening, the rest of the morning was same old, same old. I brushed my teeth, did my hair, got dressed, and started the car. Nothing out of the ordinary happened.
My mom dropped me off on the end of the sidewalk that led to Jefferson intermediate. Walking down that sidewalk was a bit of an adventure for me because it was glistening with slick ice. I tried to keep from falling by walking slowly heel toe, but due to my unsteady balance, I might as well been running on that ice because I was slipping and sliding like a bar of soap.
When I approached the school doors the thought of warmth wouldn’t leave my mind. Though once I walked through the doorway, I couldn’t help but to dread over having to go back outside to get to the armory, where 6th grade has to walk in the morning.
I stood there before the door that took me back into the cold and towards the gym. Taking a deep breath of heated air, I pushed the door open and made a run for it. The warmth that had filled my body became just as cold as the air outside.
The building was getting closer. “Almost there,” I thought to myself. My feet slowed to a stop as I entered. While taking off my backpack and coat I noticed that everybody was walking in my direction. I began to wonder if they were all coming to greet me, but then I saw them putting on their backpacks and coats. I knew that the bell must have rung so I put my backpack and coat on as well.
A bit of anger and frustration had come over me as I reentered the school. There’s not a doubt in my mind that somebody else would feel the same way if they had to go all the way back to the school once they’ve made it to the armory.
Our classroom door was open, so everybody was able to go inside and unload. We said the Pledge of Allegiance then soon as it became 8:30, our reading class came bursting in with their nonstop chattering mouths. It took awhile for everybody to settle down, but they eventually did and reading began. We checked over our vocabulary pictures. Then Ms. D thought that we should have a little more practice with our writing, so she had us grade other people’s essays and tell her what they did wrong. We graded and discussed the essays throughout language arts until it was time for science.

I somewhat had fun in science. It wasn’t the most exciting experiment we’ve done, but it was pretty cool. Ms. Hudson gave each table group 6 to 8 strips of paper depending on how many people were in a group. For each one of those strips, we had to put a drop of a type acid or a base to see what color they turned. Fun ended when social studies came.
Social Studies wasn’t as fun as science. Actually it wasn’t fun at all, just plain social studies. All that went on was reading the first two units of a new chapter we started on south Asia, nothing to get too excited about.
Lunch eventually came around. The lunch ladies were cook’n noodles with bits of chicken in it. I’m not going to lie, the lunch wasn’t that great. It was O.K I guess, it could have been cooked better.
Recess was inside for today because of the bitter weather. I played checkers with one of my classmates. Then I just messed around with everybody else.
Inside Recess eventually ended and math began. We’re working with fractions in math. Sadly, it’s the more complicated fractions that we’re working with such as mixed numbers instead of the easier and simple fractions. It was all a bit of a struggle for me to understand mixed numbers at first, but I believe I got the hang of it. In the end, we had to do two worksheets and a workbook page.

I suddenly I heard the sound of angles singing from the heavens above. The last subject of the day had finally come. It was time for spelling, and boy did time fly during spelling. Ms. Mac had us play a game everybody knows of. Sparkle. Bailey won the last minute game.
Study hall was here to end the day after spelling. The majority of us worked on our homework. As for the others, who knows what they did. I myself worked on a math worksheet. Then the students from band began to silently come in little at a time. I hardly even noticed that anybody had come in the classroom until people began to pack up.
Final bell rang and we all started out towards the exit. Soon I stepped outside, I automatically couldn’t feel my face. Thankfully, my mom saved me and picked me up in her Expedition. The temperature on the car dashboard said it was 4 degrees. The day had ended just as it had started.

I woke up this Friday at 6:30 with my dad saying “Good Morning, do you want me to turn on the light?” That was how I started off the day.
After I got off the bus I walked into the school, and into my room, to drop off my book bag. Then I started trekking off toward the armory to do the usual walk around the red line in the gym.
After a few rounds, Mrs. Dux gave the signal that it was time to gather up our possessions and head into the building. When we got settled in, we did the lunch count and flag salute, which is the all too familiar routine. After the flag salute, I found out that it was not to be any regular old Friday. Mrs. Dux announced that she had other plans for the afternoon, and that we would have a guest teacher for half the day. That was followed by a lot of groans that I’m sure made her head hurt. But it was time for reading, so Mrs. Dux was saved one massive headache, for now, anyway.
Once we were in reading, we checked pages 96, 101, and 102. We had such a huge gap between those numbers because we had been working on main idea and summaries, and that was what those four pages had been about. Then Mrs. Dux handed us a test and made us take an oath not to have any help, or use any resources. Then in language arts, (we’ve started having the classes together) she told us that she challenged Mrs. Ruhnke’s class to a writing competition, and the writing topic was to describe your dream bedroom. I didn’t think that that was a great writing topic, but she said that it would make you all the better author if you can make that sound interesting. Then out of the blue, she said it’s time for science.
When we were in science, she passed out leveled readers, which was odd, as we only had those in reading, or so I thought. But Mrs. Hudson said that she was giving us an art background. But the real reason was to show us what bronze is made of, and it happened to be in the Michel Angelo book. Then it was time for social studies.
We all filed into homeroom, and then she started social studies. We didn’t do much, but I liked it. Mrs. Dux handed back the tests that we had taken earlier that week. Then she told us our work book pages. When I couldn’t stand it any longer because the smell of yummy food wafted in from the cafeteria, and it signaled that it was time for lunch.

When we entered the cafeteria, we thought we smelled fiestada, but that couldn’t be right, we were supposed to be having something else. But, we were right! It was fiestada, and it was really good. Then it was time for recess.
When the bell rang and we all sat at our desks, we noticed something. Mrs. Dux was leaving, and in her place was Mrs. Schultis, but it was fine. In art we worked on valentine bags for Valentine’s Day. Then it was library time.
In library, we worked on the pyramid of success. I thought that it was very interesting. I really like enthusiasm and hard-work. That means that if we want to be successful we need to work hard with a smile on your face. Then it was math class.
For math we did a test on the Macintosh computers and she gave us an assignment in the textbook and a packet to do.
When math was over, we trooped over to Mrs. Mac’s room to do spelling. Last week we split into different groups. One was skipping five lessons, and the other was staying where we were. I was in the group that went ahead. But this week, she decided that we were all going to do the same lessons. So that meant that the skippers were going to have to do something else, so we did two work sheets.

After spelling we had study hall. In study hall I finished my math, and then for Fun Friday. I ate my airhead, and then worked on my Valentine bag. All in all, today was a pretty good day.

Can a person go to school with a broken butt bone? This is the question I asked myself as I flew down the stairs on my tailbone. Then at school, when I stepped out of the car and onto a patch of ice disguised as sturdy concrete, I almost fell again! I could already tell that today was not going to be a good day.
Mrs. Dux took lunch count first thing in the morning. We were having fried chicken for lunch. Then we went off to reading.
In reading, we are learning about Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China. I know what you are thinking, “Wouldn’t you learn about that in Social Studies?” Well, as a matter of fact, we are! We have been studying Chinese history in social studies, and then in reading, we learned more about the silent army made up of clay statues that guards Qin Shi Huang’s tomb. I hope this is just a coincidence. I sure don’t want to have to learn about math in more than one class.
Since reading ran long, we didn’t have language arts, so we bounced off to science. I say “bounced”, because we were going to be making silly putty with Dr. Dave. He showed us how to mix glue, cornstarch, and Borax to make putty. You have to knead it in your hands like making bread. What a mess!
After we were all cleaned up, we went to social studies. As you know, we are learning about ancient China. Our teacher, Mrs. Dux, went to China in the summer of 2010, and has been telling us all kinds of stories about her trip.

With growling stomachs, we walked to the lunchroom to get our fried chicken. We had to have recess inside because of the snow, ice, and freezing temperatures, so I played the game Apples to Apples.
When the bell rang after lunch recess, we went to our seats and listened to Mrs. Dux read aloud from the book Hunger Games. As always, we begged her to read more, but it was time to get lined up to go to music class. We wouldn’t want to miss practicing for our upcoming musical, Top 40. We have a blast singing popular songs from back in the day.
At the end of music, Mrs. Seibolt, our PE teacher, came to lead us through the below zero cold over to the Armory for our dance — I mean PE class. You guessed it, we are learning some popular dances in PE. Today it was the Cha-Cha Slide. Even though my tailbone hurt, I cha-chaed my way through PE and into math.
In math, we are learning about everyone’s favorite,
FRACTIONS! We were assigned a worksheet on graphing fractions.

Every Thursday, we have L to J in spelling class. Mrs. Mac will read the definition of a vocabulary word, then we have to write the word on our paper that we think matches the definition.
When I got back to Mrs. Dux’ room, I had to grab my flute and hurry off to mass band. When band was over, I gathered up my stuff and walked outside and onto the bus. Even after flying by the seat of my pants down the stairs, bouncing off the walls in science, and Cha cha-ing my way through the rest, I guess it wasn’t such a bad day after all.
