I awakened to the sound of my alarm clock beeping repeatedly in my ears. I groaned with exhaust and lazily dragged one foot and then the other out of my bed. I then headed towards the bathroom to get ready for school. Once finished, I quickly locked up and was on my way to Jefferson.
The wind began to bite me as I approached the school building, though I couldn’t feel it, for my face was numbed from its previous bites. Once I got to the entrance, I saw that there was a crowd of children at the school doors. All were waiting anxiously to get out of this freezing weather. I joined in with the crowd; I too wanted to get out of this weather.
Almost immediately the crowd began to lessen. Waves of people spilled threw the doors of Jefferson. Sighs of relief began to fill the air once warmth was reunited with everybody’s bodies. As I looked around, I saw everyone’s faces glowing with redness from the wind biting them so hard.
I walked in to my classroom and unloaded the bolder I call my back pack, putting all of the heavy weighed text books back into my desk. After I finished unloading, I hung my back pack on a hook and sat at my desk, preparing for my first class of the day… reading.
Reading was the same as it always is on a Monday. We checked vocabulary, took some A.R. tests, and we read a short story. This one was about a girl named Maria who moved and was put into a different school. She was very shy at first, but in the end she made some new friends and ended up being very happy.
Language Arts was just as remote as reading. The only difference of my day so far was that Ms. Dux, my teacher, handed me a camera and a hard drive and told me I was roving reporter. No words could express the joy I was feeling once I was handed that hard drive. I was about to cry, but my mind said, “No! Don’t let them see you cry! Control your happiness! Be strong and hold back your tears!” I did what I was told.
Suddenly science came, and it was time to go to Ms. Hudson’s room. We checked over the graphs we had made last week with an experiment we did using different temperatures of water and red dye. We then shared our answers to questions we answered about our experiment. Afterwards it was time to leave. We were given a homework assignment to answer five questions on page 331 in our text books.
We played Egypt games on the computer for social studies. Although there were many different games, everybody was playing the one game where you went through the process of mummifying a pharaoh. I kind of grossed out when you removed the brains, even though it was digital. Everybody was sucked into the game until the lunch bell rang.
I got up to get my heavy purple jacket and started towards the cafeteria. The smell of chicken strips filled the air which I was happy to inhale. I got my tray and sat at a lunch table with a few of my friends. After we finished, I grabbed my coat and ran for the swings. I swung back and forth, high, and low. I swung so high that I was flying with the birds!
The bell eventually spoiled my fun and rang its lousy ring telling everybody to go inside. Similar to this morning, there was a crowd of 12 year olds waiting at the entrance of the school, dying to get out of this freezing weather.
After everybody was inside and warm, Ms. Dux began to read out of The Endless Steppe. The book was getting really exciting, but she had to stop because it was time to leave for library.
As we walked into the library, the teacher had us drop off our books and head into the computer lab. We then sat in our assigned seats and began working on our keyboarding practice. I tried to going really fast so I could get done early, but that didn’t work out cause I kept on getting my fingers in a bundle. Two minutes before our class had to leave; we were told that we could check out some books, if we need to.
When our class came back, Ms. Dux told us to get out last week’s homework so we could check over it. Later on in math, we began to learn about algebra. Some people understood it right away, others - it took them awhile. (I was one of the others.) Eventually, we got the hang of it.
Our last subject of the day was spelling. We checked over a lesson that we were supposed to finish for homework last week. Then we started on a new lesson that we had to finish for homework.
Nothing was left except for study hall. I couldn’t believe school was almost over. It seemed like I was saying good morning to everyone not even 30 minutes ago. I worked on nothing but the homework I had that was assigned for me, and even after spending a whole hour on it, I didn’t even put a dent in the amount of assignments I had.
Packing up the rest of my homework kind of ruined my whole day, not because of how much I had to do, but because of the fact that I had to carry all of it on the way home. When I zipped up my book bag, it looked like I had two huge rocks in there.
Even though today wasn’t very exciting, it was still a pretty good day. I just hope tomorrow will be a little more adventurous.
