Today the day greeted us with a howl of whistling wind. When I got to school, we walked on the coldness and the blackness of the track . Everybody rushed in the building like a herd of cattle. When we got in the building, we all hung up our backpacks and did our normal routine of the Pledge of Allegiance and lunch count. As everyone left the classroom for reading, we gathered our stuff and rushed out the door like rush hour in New York, New York. Of course we didn’t want to be late to class.
In reading with Mrs. Dux, we learned about affixes with a power point. She also taught us about literary devices, like for example homonym. Two words are homonyms if they are pronounced or spelled the same way but have different meanings. Another example of a literary device is a homograph. A homograph means two or more words that are spelled the same way but are different in meaning. For example the word fair can mean a light color or you can go to a fair to see animals.
Off we transitioned into Reasoning and Writing. In Reasoning and Writing we had been given an assignment to write a character sketch about a person, animal or thing. My character sketch was about my best friend. My narrative described her characteristics, physical features, and what she is like. Mrs. Dux gave us the, not so challenging, assignment to make a web and do a sloppy copy of all our fantastic ideas. (I hope anyways.) We all ran to our next class like an angry mob as the bell screamed it’s loudness into our ears.
My next class happened to be spelling class with Mrs. McAllister. In spelling class we did lesson 36 in our spelling book. As I was going to close my book because I was finished, Mrs. McAllister said one more thing. There was a handwriting assignment. Groans were heard everywhere.
My next class was science with Mrs. Hudson who is my homeroom teacher. During science class we went over our assignment, and then Mrs. Hudson broke the news that we were going to take a science test. As I was getting ready to write an answer on the last page, the bell made its presence made known when it rang to tell us that lunch was finally here at last.
In lunch I had crispy mini corndogs, cold chocolate milk, delicious salad with crunchy croutons and ranch dressing. Just as I was dumping my tray, I heard the bell so I got my coat, gloves, scarf, and hat.
As I got outside, a whiff of spine shaking cold ran up my skin with the wind that was blowing. All my time at recess I was on the swings, and recess was over faster than I could blink. As everyone ran inside joyfully, we hurried to our class because it was so freezing cold. There ended my recess with a blink of an eye.
When everyone was inside and ready to go, Mrs. Hudson read from Peppermints in the Parlor which, of course, gets more and more exciting each day. Every Tuesday through Thursday we have P.E., so Miss Seibolt appeared like a ghost not heard through the door way. In P.E. we practiced shooting hoops until P.E. was over with a loud blow from Miss Seibolt’s whistle. As we left the armory, we headed back to our classroom because we didn’t have music. Instead we had writing.
In writing class Mrs. Hudson assigned an essay about why I am proud to be an American. She gave us time to work on it for half an hour. Once the half an hour was over, we eagerly got out our math books to begin with math.
Once math began, we started our math assignment. Our math assignment was to do 1-16 which was to predict which number was next in line, like to subtract, add, divide, or multiply. After we were done with that, everyone read or worked on other assignments until social studies made its approach.
Social studies was with Mrs. Dux. In social studies we played a review game to help us remember things for the test tomorrow. Somebody picked out a category and how many points they wanted. After that everyone put in the answer they thought was the correct one with a clicker. Social studies went by like a tornado whizzing around the room.
Some went to band, and others went to study hall. I happened to go to study hall. During study hall I went to the library to check out a new book for the weekend. When I got back to the classroom, the clock was ticking for minutes for the bell to ring its loud tune. As we all gathered our stuff to finally leave school, the bell rang once again telling everyone that school was out, but only for the day. It was an exciting day of school, but it has to end sometime. I hope to see you again in 18 or 19 days.
