The wind was not whipping our faces for once, but it was still freezing; the temperature was only 33 degrees. Finally, the bell rang. It sang a song that cut though the air like a hot knife through butter.
We came in and the heat of the school started defrosting us immediately. Right after we emptied our homework from our book bags, we said the Pledge that has kept our nation together for years. The scrumptious food we were going to get to devour at lunch time today happened to be hamburgers and French fries.
The school day started with reading. We wrote as much as we knew about dog sledding on an index card. Then we watched videos about dog sledding and about the Great Serum Race. Dogs saved many lives in Nome, Alaska when they delivered the serum. Wow! Dogs really are man’s best friend. Next, we had a bathroom break and Reasoning and Writing.
We talked about an assignment we had that was about a kid that was messy. We had drawn pictures and wrote a descriptive paragraph. Then, we did Part A on Lesson 39.The next class was science.
We talked about matter that could have a specific color, taste, odor, or that has a boiling and freezing point, conduct electricity or can be mixed together. No homework yet. I had hoped that I could get through the morning with no homework.
Social studies was interesting as we talked about the ancient Nubians and Egyptians. But the no homework dream just died. Workbook page 21 was assigned. So I went to the tasty smelling cafeteria with the thought of my homework.
The hamburger was delicious and I ate it all. My full belly helped me play basketball better. But the bell rang ending the recess. The bell saved us from the cold in the morning, but it made recess come to a halt. The bell rings at the best and the worst times.
Next, we listen to The Endless Steppe. Then, we went to music. We played a game involving note names. My team lost. After that we went to the library and typed 20 lines. After we got done with that we checked out our books. Our next class was Math.
We watched several movies on graphs, mode, mean and median. Then we had to do 1-14 on pages 89 and 90. The last class of the day was spelling.
In spelling we handed in Lesson 28 and our handwriting worksheet. Then we wrote sentences and did Lesson 29. Study Hall finally came.
During study hall I worked on social studies but didn’t get done. So I got ready to take it home.
Students of all ages rushed out of the school doors. People rushed out like a flooding waterfall. Laughter was all around me as I prepared to walk home.
